spherevfx and the Canon 5D Mark III
spherevfx has purchased the new Canon 5D Mark III along with a selection of new lens including:
- 8mm f3.8 Circular Fisheye
The company has also installed a new 20" x 10" greenscreen setup including 5400k softbox lighting.
This new equipment is going to be used to produce our own background plates, HDRI's and other visual effects elements for future courses. |

Training and Consultancy for Romanian Company
spherevfx was delighted to have worked with one of Bucharest's top film and television companies, Family Films. The training and consultancy took place running along side various projects the company had running and covered a multitude of software programs including Nuke, Maya, Mari, PFTrack, Avid and DaVinci Resolve. Subjects covered included:
- Multipass CGI - Light and AOV Passes
- Pan and Tile Setup
- Coverage Mapping
- UV and Projection Techniques
- Particles
- Building Gizmo's and Python for Nuke
- Maya and PFTrack 3D integration with Nuke
- LUT management between Avid, DaVinci Resolve and Nuke
On our final day we also had the opportunity to present our lecture on the History of the Visual Effects to the post production division of the company. |

Update to ZBrush Course
spherevfx is pleased to announce the update of our ZBrush course taking into account the new features found in ZBrush 4R3. Updates include:
- FiberMesh to create real 3d fiber, fur and hair geometry with export capabilities.
- New set of dedicated FiberMesh "Groom" brushes and corresponding Brush settings.
- MicroMesh support to render fibers or single polygons as separate 3D objects.
- New set of BPR filters and operators to greatly improve your final ZBrush renders
- BPR Global Shadow and Ambient Occlusion settings simplifying shadow management.
- New Cavity Mixer used to define different material shaders based on the mesh cavities.
- Improved small details creation through Alpha and Mask. Alphas may be placed using TransPose.
- Surface Smoothness feature detects mesh curvature for Mask creation.

- Technology which relates into the VFX industry.

spherevfx Adopts Tweak Software's RV.
spherevfx has joined the likes of Industrial Light and Magic, Weta Digital and Digital Domain in adopting RV, Tweak Software's Academy Award winning sequence viewer.
RV is a cross-platform, real-time, film resolution, high dynamic range, image and sequence viewer. It can play back industry standard DPX, Cineon, OpenEXR film and HD resolution sequences, QuickTime and mp4 files, (and many more formats) on a computer, through a projector, and in stereo. RV can work with RVIO, a standalone batch image processing tool which combined with RV gives users a powerful and adaptable platform for working with still and moving images. RV and RVIO were created in a high-end visual effects production environment by artists and engineers with deep roots in digital visual effects production. |

New Maya 103 course at fxphd
Matt Leonard, Head of Training at spherevfx, is delighted to be running a new Maya 103 course 'Introduction to Maya 2012' - Part 1 (Part 2 comes in January 2012).
The course will lay the groundwork by focusing on a single project called ‘A Robot’s Surf Shack’. We'll be cover modeling, animation, lighting, shaders and working with cameras along with rendering, render passes, and finally a small section covering compositing which will be done in Nuke. Throughout the term we'll be looking at many of the new features found in Maya 2012 including ‘Alembic’ I/O, the Camera Sequencer, the Node Editor, and ‘Ptex’ support.
