Ambling in 2011

Hi Folks,

The provisional dates for the ambles this year are:

4 June – cancelled, sorry!
9 July
13 August
10 September
8 October

We will meet at around 2pm (exact time and venue to be confirmed 1 week before the amble). I know people won’t be able to make all dates, but come when you can. It would be great if we could add to the group, so please consider asking friends (if you’ve got any!)

If you have any suggestions for ambles, please let me know – but remember we’re amblers, not ramblers!

May 2011

So the rain held off and the cafe was open – our amble took us to Fourteen Locks Canal Centre http://www.fourteenlocks.co.uk.

Steve led the way and before long we were in the middle of a field. Knowing the cafe closed at 4 we turned around and headed back.

We welcomed one new ambler – Mavis – she seemed to enjoy it so hope she (and everyone else) will be at our June amble. More details coming soon, in the meantime, here’s us all at the cafe!

April 2011 – First Amble of the Year!

Our first amble is next Saturday – 9 April. We will meet at Cwmbran Stadium Car Park (the one on the left, by the recycling bins) at 2pm.

We will walk through Oakfield towards the boating lake and back along the Afon Llwyd towards the Railway Station and then back to the Stadium (for cuppa tea?).

I know the area is familiar to many of us, but it will give us chance to talk about future ambles and whether we want to be more adventurous.

Hope to see you all Saturday week. (If you can’t make it and the next amble IS more adventurous, you’ve only got yourself to blame!)

October Amble

Hi Folks,

Saturday’sCwmbramble is a bit further afield and we were at the Newport Wetlands Reserve.

We had a lovely walk – the weather cleared up and we nearly got attacked by a low flying swan. We also saw a lighthouse.

September Amble

We’re ambling next Saturday (18th) around Caerleon.

We re meeting in the Car park between the Amphitheatre and Caerleon Rugby Club at 2.15pm, that’s a quarter past 2 or 1415!

August’s Cwmbramble

We ambled around Blaen Bran forest www.blaenbran.org.uk which is a bit ‘woodier’ than our previous ambles – its a forest, not a jungle!

We finished with tea (at about 3.30pm) at the Methodist Church in The Square.

July’s Cwmbramble

10 July saw 15 Cwmbramblers and 2 ‘fair weather, there for the refreshment’ Cwmbramblers, as we ambled around Five Locks, West Pontnewydd.

After a walk, and a little bit of golf, we stopped for refreshments at the local scout hall.

There were a few new Cwmbramblers who we welcomed – if you’re not on holiday in August, why not join us for our next meeting – details to follow soon…

we’ll be ambling around Five Locks, West Pontnewydd.

We are meeting at the junction of Five Locks Road with Greenfield Close (opposite the Cross Keys Inn) at 2.30pm.

Look forward to meeting as many as possible.

As for the name choice, I don’t want to embarass this mystery genius, but needless to say he’s the most attractive and spritely of our male amblers. Oh, and not only that, he’s the one that looks after this blog…

We went around the old part of Henllys, meeting outside the Dorallt Inn (park somewhere convenient and appropriate).
